About Mahakaleshwar Temple
Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain houses one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is the only south-facing (dakshinamurti) Jyotirlinga, making it uniquely significant in Hindu theology. The temple complex was expanded in 2022 with the Mahakal Lok corridor, creating a grand 900-meter processional path.
Did You Know? Mahakaleshwar is mentioned in the ancient Meghaduta poem by Kalidasa, making it one of the earliest documented Hindu temples in Indian literature.
