Ujjain Jain Dharamshala: List, Rates and Rules (2026)

Ujjain Jain Dharamshala: List, Rates and Rules (2026)

Key takeaways

  • Two Jain dharamshalas have full listings: Shri Avanti Parshwanath Jain Shwetambar Tirth, Danigate (about 1.4 km from Mahakaleshwar) and Shri Neminath Digambar Jain Atishay Kshetra, Jaisinghpura (1.6 km).
  • YatraDham lists Avanti Parshwanath at Rs 1,000 a night for Jain families only, and Neminath from Rs 1,000 + Rs 50 taxes (non-refundable).
  • Both require government ID and guests 18+, and exclude unmarried couples; Neminath's gate is shut 10 PM-6 AM.
  • Jaindharmashala.com states it is a demo and its bookings are not valid; do not pay through it.
  • Two jaindharmashala.com (demo) listings for Avanti Parshwanath suggest breakfast roughly 8:30-9:30, lunch around noon and chovihar dinner from about 5 pm; confirm at the bhojanshala.

The Ujjain Jain dharamshala options with full published listings are Shri Avanti Parshwanath Jain Shwetambar Tirth on Chandrashekhar Azad Marg, Danigate (about 1.4 km from Mahakaleshwar) and Shri Neminath Digambar Jain Atishay Kshetra near the Jaisinghpura railway crossing (about 1.6 km). YatraDham lists rooms at both from Rs 1,000 a night; Avanti Parshwanath rooms are for Jain families only.

Most pages about Jain dharamshalas in Ujjain are booking widgets or name lists without addresses. This guide covers only properties we could trace to a published address, gives each tariff with the platform that showed it, and states who may stay as each listing puts it. Where two sources disagree, both figures are shown. We have not stayed at these dharamshalas and we do not book them; confirm everything with the trust or the booking platform before you travel.

Ujjain Jain dharamshala options at a glance

Two properties have full listings on YatraDham, a dharamshala booking platform: one Shvetambara and one Digambara. Three more appear in directories or on a map, with an address but no tariff. Distances are to Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga as listed by YatraDham. For trust and samaj stays beyond Jain bhawans, see our list of dharamshalas in Ujjain.

Only the two YatraDham rows have enough detail to plan around. The other three are listed or mapped, but you will need to ask locally about their rooms, rates and rules.

Shri Avanti Parshwanath Jain Shwetambar Tirth, Danigate

This is the Shvetambara tirth dedicated to Parshvanatha, with its dharamshala on Chandrashekhar Azad Marg in Danigate. YatraDham gives the PIN as 456006; a Jain directory listing gives 456001, so use the street address and Danigate when sharing directions.

Rooms, rate and who may stay

YatraDham lists one room type: a 2 Bed AC Room for Jain families only, at Rs 1,000 a night, for a maximum of two guests, with an attached bathroom. Listed facilities are a food facility, hot water, CCTV and drinking water, with 24-hour check-in. The property had no guest reviews on YatraDham when we checked.

YatraDham lists these rules:

  • Rooms are for Jain families only.
  • Guests must be 18 or older; single guests and unmarried couples are not accepted.
  • Only guests from other cities can book; Ujjain residents cannot.
  • Government ID is required.
  • Pay-at-check-in bookings must arrive before 3 PM or tell the property in advance, or the booking is cancelled.

A separate listing on jaindharmashala.com shows an AC room at Rs 700, a non-AC room at Rs 300 and a Rs 100 service charge per room, and lists AC, Wi-Fi, RO water, hot water, lockers, parking and a lift. That site carries the banner "Website is under demo. All bookings are not valid", so treat its prices as unconfirmed and do not book through it. The YatraDham rate is the one attached to a working booking page; confirm the current rate with the trust.

Location near Ram Ghat

YatraDham puts the dharamshala about 1.4 km from Mahakaleshwar Temple, 750 m from Harsiddhi Mata Temple and 350 m from Ram Ghat. The bus and railway station are listed at 2.4 km, Kal Bhairav Temple at 4.6 km and the Indore airport at 60.5 km.

The tirth in Jain tradition

According to Jain tradition recorded by the Jain Samaj, the Avanti Parshwanath temple stands near the Shipra River (Kshipra), was most likely built about 250 years after Mahavira's nirvana, and takes its name from Avantika, the old name of Ujjain. Ujjain also has a link with Acharya Siddhasena Divakara: Wikipedia shows an idol of him at a Shvetambara Jain temple in Ujjain, and tradition connects him with King Vikramaditya in the city.

Shri Neminath Digambar Jain Atishay Kshetra, Jaisinghpura

The Digambara option is the bhavan at Shri Neminath Digamber Jain Mandir, near the Jaisinghpura railway crossing (spelled Jaysinhpura on YatraDham), Ujjain 456010. The mandir is named for Neminatha. YatraDham lists it 1.6 km from Mahakaleshwar, 1.8 km from the railway station, 1.1 km from the bus stand and 56 km from the Indore airport, so it is the more convenient of the two if you arrive by bus or train.

Rooms and rate

YatraDham lists a 2 Bed Non-AC Simple (Family) Room from Rs 1,000 plus Rs 50 taxes, for a maximum of two guests. Facilities listed are parking, hot water, CCTV, drinking water and attached toilets, with an extra mattress on request. Bookings are non-refundable. Guests rated it 3.0/5 from 93 reviews on YatraDham, so read the recent reviews before you commit.

Rules and gate timings

  • Check-in 10 AM; check-out 9 AM in YatraDham's policy box, though the same page's FAQ gives 10 AM, so confirm.
  • Main gate closed from 10 PM to 6 AM.
  • Government ID required; guests must be 18 or older; unmarried couples are not permitted.
  • No pets, outside food, alcohol or non-vegetarian food.
  • YatraDham's general booking terms also exclude single guests and guests from the same city.

The gate timing matters if you plan a pre-dawn temple visit: with the gate shut until 6 AM, ask the trust whether it can be opened earlier before you book. YatraDham's terms say some properties are restricted to followers of a certain religion where stated for a room type; the Neminath room type carries no such note. That does not confirm that non-Jains are accepted, so ask the trust directly.

Other Jain dharamshalas listed in Ujjain

Directories list a few more Jain dharamshalas with an address but no published tariff or rules:

  • Jain Dharamshala, Rishinagar Anupoorak: near Jain Mandir, C Wing-48/3, Jaisinghpura, Ujjain 456001 (Bharat Yatri; Justdial places it in Jaisinghpura).
  • Shri Mahaveer Jain Dharamshala: Kramank 20, Shri Pal Marg, Ujjain 456006 (Bharat Yatri; Justdial lists it under Indira Nagar).
  • Jain Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk: mapped on Mappls at Kartik Chowk, Ujjain 456006, with no further details.

We do not print phone numbers from directories because we cannot confirm they are current. Some online guides name other Jain dharamshalas in Ujjain with tariffs but no address; we left out every name we could not trace to a second source.

Food, bhojanshala and chovihar timings

If you keep Jain food rules, check the bhojanshala (dining hall) as carefully as the room. In Jainism, Chauvihar is the practice of not eating after sunset, which is why Jain dharamshala kitchens serve the evening meal early. Two listings for Avanti Parshwanath on jaindharmashala.com give meal slots, and they do not match exactly:

MealAvanti Parshwanath listing"Avanti Dharamshala" listing
Navkarshi (breakfast)9:00 am8:30-9:30 am
Lunch12:00-1:15 pm11:30 am-1:30 pm
Chovihar (evening meal)From 5:00 pmFrom 5:00 pm, as per panchang

Both listings sit on the demo site, so read the table as an indicative pattern: breakfast roughly 8:30-9:30, lunch around noon, and chovihar dinner from about 5 pm, shifting with sunset and the panchang. Confirm the day's timings at the bhojanshala when you check in. Arrive before the evening slot so you do not miss the last meal of the day. YatraDham lists a food facility at Avanti Parshwanath; for Neminath it gives no food detail beyond the ban on outside and non-vegetarian food, so ask.

Rules, eligibility and how to book

Who can stay

As published, Avanti Parshwanath's YatraDham room is for Jain families only, and the jaindharmashala.com listing says only Jain yatris may stay. Neminath's room listing has no religion restriction, but it does not say that non-Jains are welcome either. On YatraDham, both properties exclude single guests, unmarried couples, under-18s and guests from the same city.

Booking channels and the demo-site warning

YatraDham shows bookable rooms for both main properties. Jaindharmashala.com ranks well in search for Avanti Parshwanath, but both of its pages say "Website is under demo. All bookings are not valid", and its security certificate had expired when we checked, so do not pay through it. Our dharamshala page notes that some trusts book only in person or by phone, so if a platform shows no availability, contact the trust office. Carry original photo ID and ask whether there is a cap on the number of nights you can stay.

Festival dates

On major festival dates, book as early as the trust allows and reconfirm a few days before arrival. With only one listed room type at each main property, there is little room for flexibility if a booking falls through.

Jain dharamshala, general dharamshala or budget hotel?

A Jain dharamshala makes most sense if you keep Jain food rules and want to stay beside a tirth. If your group includes non-Jains, single travellers or unmarried companions, the eligibility rules above may rule it out. Our wider Ujjain dharamshala guide covers trust and samaj stays more broadly, and the Yadav Dharamshala profile shows how a community dharamshala outside the Jain network works.

Frequently asked questions

Can non-Jain pilgrims stay in a Jain dharamshala in Ujjain?

It depends on the property. YatraDham lists the Avanti Parshwanath room for Jain families only. Neminath's room listing carries no religion restriction, but it does not confirm that non-Jains are accepted, so ask the trust before booking.

How much does a Jain dharamshala in Ujjain cost per night?

As listed on YatraDham, Avanti Parshwanath's 2-bed AC room is Rs 1,000 a night and Neminath's 2-bed non-AC family room is from Rs 1,000 plus Rs 50 taxes. A demo directory shows lower Avanti rates (Rs 700 AC, Rs 300 non-AC plus Rs 100), which are unconfirmed.

Which Jain dharamshala is closest to Mahakaleshwar temple?

Shri Avanti Parshwanath Jain Shwetambar Tirth in Danigate is listed about 1.4 km from Mahakaleshwar; Shri Neminath Digambar Jain Atishay Kshetra is listed at 1.6 km. Both figures are from YatraDham.

Is Jain food available at Avanti Parshwanath dharamshala?

YatraDham lists a food facility. Two listings on jaindharmashala.com, a site that says it is a demo, suggest navkarshi around 8:30-9:30 am, lunch around noon and chovihar from about 5 pm; exact times vary, so confirm at the bhojanshala.

Can I book an Ujjain Jain dharamshala online?

YatraDham shows bookable rooms for Avanti Parshwanath and Neminath. Do not book through jaindharmashala.com, which states that it is a demo and that its bookings are not valid. Some trusts book only in person or by phone.

What documents are needed to check in?

Both main properties require government ID and guests aged 18 or over, and neither accepts unmarried couples. Our dharamshala page advises carrying original photo ID for every adult in your group.
